Peacock Announces Another Price Hike for Streaming Subscribers

NBCUniversal’s streaming service, Peacock, is increasing its subscription prices for the second time in less than a year, signaling a broader trend of rising costs in the competitive streaming market. Starting next month, the ad-supported Premium plan will jump from $5.99 to $6.99 per month, while the ad-free Premium Plus tier will rise from $11.99 to $12.99. The move follows a similar price adjustment last summer, when Peacock raised rates by $1 across both tiers.
Industry analysts suggest the hike reflects growing content production costs and the need to offset losses from heavy investments in original programming and live sports, including exclusive NFL and Premier League coverage. Competitors like Netflix, Disney+, and Max have also implemented price increases in recent months, as streaming platforms pivot toward profitability after years of aggressive subscriber growth.
Peacock’s parent company, Comcast, reported strong subscriber gains in its latest earnings, with the platform reaching 34 million paid customers. However, the service still operates at a loss, prompting executives to balance revenue growth with viewer retention. Subscribers will be notified of the changes via email, with existing customers given a 30-day grace period before the new rates take effect.
As streaming services continue to adjust pricing models, consumers may face tougher decisions about which platforms to keep—or drop—amid tightening household budgets.
