Nintendo is once again inviting players to test its online infrastructure, this time opening a new trial program for 40,000 Switch Online subscribers. The initiative, announced via the company’s Japanese support page, aims to evaluate server stability and network performance ahead of potential updates to the service. Participants will engage in online multiplayer sessions across select games, with feedback helping Nintendo refine its online experience.
This marks the latest in a series of stress tests conducted by Nintendo, which has previously run similar trials to assess server capacity and matchmaking efficiency. The company has faced criticism in the past for its online service’s reliability, particularly in high-demand scenarios like major game launches or events. By expanding these tests, Nintendo appears to be proactively addressing these concerns.
According to a report from Eurogamer, the trial will run for a limited time and is currently available only to Japanese users, though global tests may follow if successful. Nintendo Switch Online, which launched in 2018, offers cloud saves, classic game libraries, and online multiplayer—features that have seen incremental improvements over time. With competitors like Xbox Live and PlayStation Plus setting high standards, Nintendo’s continued investment in backend testing suggests a commitment to closing the gap in online functionality.
